This course aims to provide students with enough knowledge to explore the possibilities & limitations of various methods of structural system and understand structural design as a methodology which is integral to the architectural design process.

 

The course comprises lectures, student presentations and structural design project;

 

• A series of lectures covers key structural design issues and provides students with an understanding of basic structural principles.

• Students explore the principles & various methods of structural systems through research and case studies.

• Students undertake a comprehensive structural design project that explores and addresses the key structural issues of their design projects.

 

Students will gain a 'structural intuition' to define and find a synergy between structure and architecture through understanding basic principles and exploring them in different structural and architectural systems.
